We highly encourage all families interested in playing to sign up soon. The past two seasons we have had to turn away over 100 players – and WE DO NOT ALLOW LATE REGISTRATION (Late entries will be WAIT LISTED ONLY, and added only if players drop). Every season, we get about 25 calls the day after registration closes – so don’t wait! This Fall we had a record 52 kids on the Waiting List!

Fall 2017 D6 – D12 INFO

Cost:
D6 – D12 – $295.
Note: pants (required) are not included, and are an additional $25 each – so you will be billed $320 (if you purchase pants).

Pants (required) – are an additional $25, but they are yours to keep (no need to buy every season).

REGISTRATION ENDS 7/31/17 (midnight).

A $25 registration fee will be deducted from all refunds, prior to the season and $50 will be deducted from in-season refunds. “In season” is once jerseys and insurance have been ordered, usually about a week after registration closes.

MAKE SURE YOU’RE REGISTERED:

When submitting your registration you will be redirected to Paypal. Registration is complete once we have received your payment. Once payment is confirmed, you should receive a confirmation email. If you cancel or fail to complete the payment, registration will be incomplete and you will not be assigned a team. If you don’t get the confirmation email – you are not registered. If your registration comes through but payment does not, we will contact you via email TWICE and then you will be dropped from the league. Any questions please contact registrar@bcsflagfootball.com. Avoid using mobile devices or older browsers when registering. And please shut off pop-up blockers as well (sure, our software is a bit sensitive.).

YOUR CHILD’S AGE ON 7/1/2017  IS YOUR LEAGUE PLAYING AGE – for the year (Fall ’17 and Spring ’18).

For example, if your child turns 10 on 7/16/17, he/she will still be eligible to play in the D9 all year, since he/she was 9 on 7/1/17. However, if your child turns 10 on 6/30/17, he/she will need to play in D10. Kids can also “play up” a division (not in D6, unless approved by the league) to play with friends. A child can NOT “play down” no matter the circumstance. And we highly discourage “playing up” for kids under 7. We do not allow 5 year olds to play no matter their grade, except in the Spring in our Future Stars division.

ALL D6 – D12 PLAYERS MUST BE AT LEAST 5 YEARS OF AGE AS OF 7/1/17.

And none older than 12 – as of 7/1/17. So a child can play at 13, but only if he/she turned 13 AFTER 7/1/17.

WHAT GRADE YOUR CHILD IN DOESN’T MATTER.

Again, the league works on a “League Playing Age” system – the age your child is on 7/1/2017 is the division the play in for both the Spring and Fall.

AGE DIVISIONS (Fall 2017)

• D6, D7, D8, D9, D10, D11, D12

Note: League reserves the right to merge age groups if we have low registration in specific division. We generally don’t do that in the Fall where registration is historically higher.

ALL NEW PLAYERS MUST SHOW PROOF OF AGE VIA BIRTH CERTIFICATE. NO EXCEPTIONS.

If we do not have your child’s birth certificate on file, you MUST scan and email his/her legal birth certificate or Passport to: birthcert@bcsflagfootball.com. Again, your child will not be allowed to play without a birth certificate on file – so if your child is a new player, send it in right away.

TEAM REQUESTS:

You can request to be on a specific team, subject to Coach’s approval, as they have the final say (within reason). You can also request to play with friends or kids from a specific school. However, they are just that – requests. We often get 20+ requests for teams that average 13-14 kids, so obviously we can fulfill every one.

The best way to “guarantee” your child plays with his/her friends is by becoming a Head Coach. You get to pick the kids (if available), your coaches, team name, colors and practice time! Even if you’ve never played football — we’ll give you the tools to success, including a playbook, roster work book, and coaching mentorship with an experienced league coach (by request). So jump in and help out – your kid will thank you!

TEAM FORMATION (FALL 2017):

  • D6 & D7 – DRAFT FORMAT
  • D8 – D12 – TRADITIONAL FORMAT (Coaches form teams and league distributes free agents and forms new teams as needed)

TEAM FORMATION (SPRING 2018):

  • Future Stars (AGE 5)  – League forms teams in modified draft system (Various factors considered, including school affiliation, geography, friendships and talent parity)
  • D6-D12 – DRAFT

DRAFT FORMAT: All kids will receive a “Round Grade” – generally from 1st to 10th. Head Coaches will be allowed to pair with ONE Assistant Coach of their choosing, prior to the draft. The rest of their team will be chosen via round robin draft. We invite board members and experienced coaches who know the specific division to help coaches choose their team. Our goal is to make the teams as equal as possible. As such, if a Head Coach’s child receives a first round grade, he/she will not be allowed to coach with the parent of another First Round Rated player.

ROSTERS:

Rosters will be locked a few days after registration ends, and most teams start practicing in late August. Teams generally carry between 13-15 kids. Each team is required to have at 13 – as long as there are enough kids registered in that division. Since every player is required to get at least 14 plays, smaller teams are preferred, but with kids often playing multiple sports, teams need to make sure they can afford to miss a player or two. Over 14 seasons we’ve found 13-15 to be the sweet spot in terms of size.

SCHEDULE:

Games are tentatively scheduled to start the first or second week of September. Games are Friday Night, Saturday/Saturday Night or Sunday/Sunday Night. The season is generally over in December.

The season schedule will be posted online once field space is completely confirmed, which unfortunately isn’t generally until a week or so before the season starts.

PRACTICE:

Teams practice at various (permitted) park and schools throughout the South Bay, depending on team make up and coach’s choice. Generally, teams practice once a week, usually for an hour to two hours – again depending on the team, age group and coach.

GAME LOCATIONS:

Most games are played at Waller Field at Mira Costa High School or The Seahawk Bowl at Redondo Union High School. However, due to the incredible popularity of the league, we may play on some alternate fields like Pacific Elementary (MB), Manhattan Beach Middle School (MB), American Martyrs (MB), Aviation Field (RB), and Hermosa Valley (HB). Where teams play is pretty much random, since we have 40+ teams a season, so we can’t take requests.

LEAGUE FEATURES:

• Amazing Super Bowl that just keeps getting better – free food for the kids, exciting booths and giveaways, live PA, and much more
• Weighted Schedules – we try to allow newer teams (or newer Coaches) more opportunities to play each other, rather than existing/experienced teams (at least right away).
• Friday/Saturday Night Lights games (they’ve become a community-wide event).
• All Coaches receive a professional background check, and sign a Code of Conduct
• Post-season playoff series — all teams go to the playoffs
• Constantly updated website — your one stop for all BCS related info!
• Most games are professionally shot – on HD video, and posted the same week.
